Women's Counseling

Do you believe that there is a better life possible for you but are unsure how to get to it? With life's constant twists and turns we can often feel isolated and disconnected from others and even from ourselves. We often have a vision of how we would like to be living in the world as women and feel it is not being actualized. We feel lost, like there is nowhere to turn, losing hope for our vision. This may bring out self-judgment, where critical parts of us tell us we are not good enough. We can then feel defeated and believe there is nothing we can do to change. Other times we feel angry that we keep going back to old patterns of living, knowing they are not working but not knowing how to continue down a different path. In today's fast paced, independent minded society it can be difficult to risk asking for help, much less admitting that we need it. Yet there are times in all of our lives where we need support to make needed changes to support our wellness so that we can begin to live the lives we long to. Change is possible and I can help you to live your life in more meaningful, authentic and inspiring ways.

What to Expect

The therapeutic process in individual counselling involves meeting together to determine what it is that you would like to work on, so that I can develop an understanding of how we can best work together. During the first few sessions I collect information about your current life, your strengths, resources, current patterns and about the family you grew up in. After this I will share my observations and we will begin addressing your presenting issues, so that you can start to feel better. We will work together to ensure that you feel safe, supported and contained through the therapeutic process.

If any of these issues resonate with you, women's counseling can help:

  • You are feeling anxious, sad or depressed

  • You’re struggling with issues of self-esteem or body image

  • You’re suffering due to a traumatic event, such as childhood abuse

  • You give too much to others and don’t get enough of what you need

  • You often feel hurt by friends, family or your partner

  • You find yourself in challenging relationships

  • You keep repeating negative relationship patterns.

  • You’re grieving the loss of a relationship.

  • You’re experiencing sexual issues

  • You’re struggling with addiction (alcohol, drugs, food, sex, love, shopping, etc.)

  • You’re having problems with your children

Women's Counseling can help you to:

  • Feel better about yourself and your day-to-day life

  • Improve the quality of your relationships by developing more life affirming behaviors.

  • Communicate more effectively so you get what you need

  • Take better care of yourself and learn to set boundaries and limits

  • Feel more connected and intimate with others

  • Become a stronger, more confident and loving parent

  • Develop new perspectives and life skills so that you can free yourself from habitual patterns of anxiety, depression, and self-criticism.

  • Reclaim your sense of personal power.

  • Learn to take responsibility and move forward in your life rather than feeling stuck, helpless and hopeless.

Some Types of Individual Counseling:

Depression and Anxiety Counseling

Depression can leave you feeling hopeless, fatigued, pessimistic and empty.  You can lose interest in hobbies, friends, work and life itself.  Anxiety can leave you feeling stressed, helpless, frantic, paranoid and depressed.  Seeking therapy from a licensed therapist can teach you tools to manage depression and anxiety and help you lead a happier healthier life.

Body Image and Self Esteem Counseling

In our society it is very easy to see your self esteem erode.  Berating bosses, bullies at school and overly critical spouses or parents can lead to feelings of inadequacy and doubt.  When you add the pressures of weight and body image it is easy to slip from low self esteem to depression.  Therapy can help you change your perspective, and help you focus on your inner beauty and worth.

Grief and Loss Counseling

Everyone experiences loss, and deals with their grief in their own way.  For many the pain may be unbeareable and they turn to food, drugs, alcohol or any self-destructive behavior to cope.  Grief counseling will help you process your loss so you can let the healing begin and learn healthier ways to cope.
